Well, I didn’t really think I’d be blogging about this when we first decided to visit Benvie Open Gardens but this place was just STUNNING and if you’re in this neck of the woods (the KZN Midlands, that is!) looking for a beautiful outing in nature, you still have one week to pop in! Just look at these photos from our lovely afternoon adventure with the kids… (these phone pics actually don’t do it justice, but you get the idea!)
The official dates for visiting are between 22nd September running through to the 7th October (so you still have time to go!) every day of the week from 9am to 4pm. Entry fee: R50 for adults / children are free; for pensioners a reduced entry fee of R30 will apply on all Thursdays.
Directions from the N3 at Howick. Take either the Midmar Dam or Tweedie turnoff. Both these roads lead to Howick. Travel along Main Street through Howick until you reach the Rietvlei/Karkloof Road. Continue on tar until road becomes gravel. Your next landmark will be the Mbona gate on your right. Carry straight on as you wind up the hill. Look for the 32 km stone. Then turn right onto the New Hanover/York Road which is signposted. Travel downhill for 3 kilometres. Turn left onto District Road 583. Benvie is signposted at this point and the home is 200m away.
