A few months ago I was visiting Free Range Interiors & Clothing (at Piggly Wiggly, here in the Midlands) and while browsing, spotted the store’s incredible light fitting above my head… Upon closer inspection I discovered that the chandelier was actually crafted from individual strands (narrow thongs) of leather, fixed and draped over a frame of sorts, and in a word, I was awestruck! Fortunately the helpful shop assistant was able to tell me that the company who designed the chandelier was called ‘High Thorn,’ and upon my return home later that day, a serious stalk-a-thon commenced!
I have been following Georgina Anderson’s High Thorn Instagram account since, and I still can’t get over these incredible pieces (all handmade here in SA!) Not only do High Thorn produce their impressive leather numbers, they have been making ‘twig chandeliers’ for over 15 years and have added a range of other lighting designs and furniture pieces to the mix, including crocheted pod lighting and leather ottomans; wooden disk chandeliers; beaded mirrors and shades; creative seating and so on – a feast for the eyes of design enthusiasts and home decor obsessives alike!
Totally crushing on this amazing local design brand, who also have trading partners in the USA and Australia – love the thought of locally made wares being celebrated and enjoyed abroad!
#BedroomGoals to have one of these stunning creations hanging above my bed one day – we have the perfect high ceilings for statement lighting ♥
