Last year I had the privilege of working with Belinda Mountain on a new visual identity for her South African blog, Making Mountains – I love working with other bloggers because I know how important it is for most of us to to decorate our online homes and have them reflect our personal style – helping people to achieve that really makes my heart happy!
Belinda and I worked hard together to create a new look for Making Mountains that was minimalist, fresh and modern – something that would carry her through the transition from ‘mommy blog’, to ‘parenting/lifestyle blog’ without alienating established readers. We achieved this successfully without making changes to the original blog theme/layout, but fast forward a few months and into a new year, and Belinda felt it was also time to update the theme/look/structure of the actual website itself…
Again we worked on the principles of creating something ‘clean, modern, fresh’ and I think the new design looks great (if I do say so myself!) – big thanks to my developer on this project, David – these devs are really the unsung heroes in projects like this, putting up with endless questions and revisions and generally just making the magic happen!
I really do think the new vibe does the visual identity more justice than the previous theme, and I love the subtle design inclusions like inserting the watercolour feature below and above the footer Instagram widget in the them, as well as carrying the green colours through as an accent feature to create consistency. This was a lovely theme in general to work on and customise.
