Finally getting round to giving this fab project some love on my blog – I’m crazy about the work I did with this beautiful brand, so much so that I just have to show it off! Introducing the deliciously luxurious Onyx & Fair…
Right from the beginning, my client, Hanja, had a very strong sense of what she wanted to achieve: to transform her children’s brand (previously Sprouts Kids Co) into something more grown up, something sophisticated, modern and minimalist – it was always all about the ampersand too – challenge accepted!
I started off by putting together an awesome mood board – Hanja had collected a real strong set of images on her Pinterest board for the brand that gave me a great visual sense for the vibe of the project from the outset.
After some initial research and inspiration-gathering, I started off with the first round of concepts, focusing on creating a unique and exciting ampersand – here are some of my very rough initial designs that we obviously didn’t use, but always fun to see the progression of things – Hanja wanted the ampersand to have thick and thin variations throughout, and to show movement or even the idea of ‘flow’ and water.
The final product ticked all the boxes – a beautiful clean san serif to accompany the unique ampersand design, plus some useful complimentary/accent fonts for use on the website and social media; a smooth and neutral, yet subtly rich colour palette; and some useful/versatile logo variations/sub-marks… What do you think?
